This long and winding road leads to the impressive Outeniqua Pass. In the shadow of Jerome Mountain, a high point on the road south gives a great view up and down the coast. Inland there may be towns and villages but they are hidden from sight behind sand dunes. North of the river the route continues in parallel with another km stretch of sandy coastline, sometimes drifting inland to weave through the dunes.
